Why there has been no sewing

There have not been any posts in a while. To be truthful there has not been much sewing in a while. My kids have reached that age where we are never home. I figure there is plenty of time to sew when they go off to college. And my spare time has been spent training! My cousin who is like a sister to me likes to work out with me. The problem with this is she is ten years younger than me an thinks I should do everything she does. Plus my niece joins us who is 17 years younger!!!! I'm am not sure how she talked me into this but we just finished Rugged Maniac and it is the hardest thing i ever did EVER.

And here we are at the end. Now we can smile and today I can not move. Haha my bruises have bruises.
It took me 49 min to run a 5k with 12 obstacles. The pics were of the easy ones. I think the two ten foot walls were the hardest.

A Poem

My artist(who is turning 13 tomorrow) wrote this poem for school and I just had to share it.

9:00
It is dusk,
peaceful,
silent.
No sound, but a light, nimble, ever so quiet tip... tip... tip.
Without light it is an unknown object, an undiscovered species.
My eyes strain as I search for better light, waiting to be unearthed,
becoming more distraught as I’m sucked through the black hole of my basement.
I find it, relief spreads through me like a deafening sound falling silent.
Night turns to day in the room underground
The noise of which I wonder is a needle at work, my mother’s hand to fabric, and foot to pedal
of her sewing machine.
To my right flickers an object. A rectangle of beautiful colors catches my eye.
This is my motivation, my moment, now I work on my square of colors
I have only just started.
3 patches done working for the what only seems like 5 minutes.
It’s more
As I spot the clock, I come to find an hour has vanished as well as each second ticking by as time takes its turn.
I frown at little work that has been done, and feel ashamed, foolish.
I feel as though I could work forever, though I know my time is limited.
Soon I shall be brought down by drowsiness.
Each blink delayed as I settle in darkness, each yawn gains more strength.
Realization of reality hits me.
The nickname this room has given itself stays true to its word.
Keeping its forever regretful promise.
The time vortex.

Wasn't that awesome. We do call the basement aka my sewing room the time vortex because whenever we go down there time just disappears. Even my girls friends call it that now.hahaha

Took my first class

I took my first knitting class on Friday. It was learning to knit from the cuff down. Having never done anything other than dish clothes I was not use to the whole dpn thing and keeping track of four at once. Ugh but once I got home and didn't have the pressure of a teacher standing over my should I found it very relaxing.

Here is my first ever sock. It is soooooo cute. The second sox is almost done. The girls have decided this will go to their band teacher who is due to give birth soon to a little girl. I figure one more set before I try an adult sox.

Next week I lear toe up. It will be interesting to see the difference.

Does my leg count as a design wall for knitting. Check out what everyone else is up to over at Judy's site for Design Wall Monday.

A New Project

I have decided to give something new a try. Not a new quilt design but something completely different. I am going to try knitting socks. I can do a very simple cast on and a basic knit stitch and that is it. But while looking at yarn stores I noticed the one down the street from me(even closer than the quilt shop) Was having a class on socks so I figured it was meant to be.

I was advised that I would love knitting socks toe up so that is what I signed up for BUT when I got to the shop to buy my supplies they strongly recommended that I learn cuff down first. Sigh what to do which way to go? After thinking long and hard. At least ten minutes or the time it took me to get home I made my decision. I am now signed up for two sock classes. I will learn cuff down this Friday night and Toe up on the 20th. Yea I am very excited about this. My husband just rolls his eyes at me and wonders where he found me.

Here are my supplies I can't wait to start using them!

February Finish

The quality is probably not great. I used my cell phone to take the picture but it is DONE! Well almost done. I need to quilt it. I bought the backing fabric yesterday and hope to have it on the machine tomorrow. This is my CGQC for February.
I would do it tonight but my little whirlwind is having his birthday party tonight. He is going to be 11 wow how time flies!!!! this is school vacation week so he got to sleep in.(or at least he was forced to stay in bed until his sisters made him breakfast in bed. He got toast, poptarts and french toast and milk shakes. I hope he didn't end up with a stomachache.

I sewed!

I was begining to think I would never have time to sew again. the kids have reached the stage where we don't get to sit for a minute. I have to admit that I like being busy and I am doing some of the things with the kids as well. We are all now a family of gold belts at karate. Yep all of us even my husband is doing this one. I am also taking tap with the girls. Well I am in beginer tap and they are in advance but we will all do the recital together. BUT with all of that I have MISSED sewing.

So on New Years Day I drove to my favorite quilt shop The Quilt Patch and spent a day sewing.

It is not done but doesn't it look great so far. This will be a raffle quilt for the drama dept at my kids school. Fingers crossed someone buys a ticket or more!

This quilt is also my January goal for CCQC I want to have it done and handed off to the school by the end of this month.

Secret Santa ready for the mail!

A slight change in plans for the Secret Santa Swap. I used a different table runner and different fabric. I think it is still cute as a button and I hope the person receiving it loves it. BUT I wanted to have time to make these adorable pillow cases as well and in order to have time the table runner had to be toned down just a tad. I love these pillow cases! There are two of each and they are made of flannel. I was tempted to keep one set but I know I would feel guilty every time I slept on one. Maybe a trip to the fabric store to buy more of the fabric is just what the doctor ordered.

There is also a cute little sewing kit as well. I picked this up at the Quilt show in November. It was just way too cute to pass up. I decided to go with a Winter theme versus a Christmas theme for a couple of reasons. One there was not much on my partners Blogs to show what her taste were. And two she would be able to use it for the whole winter!

This will all go in the mail first thing Monday morning. Crossing fingers that it arrives safe and sound.
